The Sturminster Newton Medical Centre is built on the former livestock market within the heart of Sturminster Newton, North Dorset. The 7.5 acre site was originally earmarked for a simplistic housing development, which did not embrace the local community’s aspirations.

Working in partnership with the GP practice, the local supermarket, community centre and community company, we consulted and listened to how they wanted their community to develop and embrace this large Town Centre brownfield site which was once the heartbeat of the community.

We requested a representative team to join us at planning and highways meetings so that everyone was engaged in a partnership promoting the future of their Town Centre.

The completed community elements of the scheme involve ‘The Exchange (a 300 seat theatre, 70 seat meeting room, covered market area, Town Council offices, small starter offices for rent), six GP surgery, 8,500 sq ft supermarket and dental suite.’

Working with communities and key stakeholder groups is key for success of a development. The whole aim is to improve and create an environments that people wish to be part of and Charles Higgins Partnership excel at this.

This was the third project that the GP’s have engaged Philip Proctor to progress their surgery developments over the last 20 years.

It is this long term association with Philip and his high design skill set that makes a Charles Higgins Surgery the right choice when looking for an exit strategy as the demands for primary care facilities change from owner occupation to lease hold premises as you will have design influence over the building you would like to work from.

How We Got There

Testimonials

“To end my working days in such a place considering that 31 years ago when I started we worked from two very small rooms. It’s been magnificent.”

Dr Geoff Walder, Retired Senior Partner, Lilliput Surgery, Sandbanks
