Illminster has grown very rapidly over the past few years with substantial new housing which has intern put pressure on the provision of medical services. Like all medical premises it is subject to approval by the NHS on a value for money basis and land cost is a principle part of the equation and then getting community support for the development in low cost land areas takes time to secure irrespective of the need of the local patients.
Thus it has taken us the best part of 10 years to get on site having to jump through may hurdles and carefully win local community support to secure a parcel of land that was on the green belt in order to provide this much needed valuable community facility for this generation and future generations in years to come.
In under 3 years the building is making use of its space well and we are pleased that we were able to secure sufficient land to allow for substantial expansion of this building for the two practices that have moved here as we have recently heard of a proposal for an additional 900 houses plus the other members of the community who are finding The Meadows & Summervale Surgery convenient for their needs thus the patient lists are growing and we believe that it was worth the time and effort invested in finding the right site and designing the right building for the long term needs of the community.
