The Dr’s here were working in very very cramped Health Authority accommodation that the land was wanted for residential development. So finding a site was, as ever, the challenge. We worked up a number of options and then they could not be purchased due to lack of funding support from the NHS or in one case Sport for England. In the end the site we secured was discovered by the GP talking to Patient who had a undevelopable site for residential and had been left abandoned.

The shape and contours of the site pushed the design capability of Philip Proctor the Architect as there was only one area on high enough ground that we could locate the building with a footprint of the required size. We managed to squeezed Cowes Medical Centre between a reservoir and a cemetery we feel we have maximised the use of a piece of land to the benefit of the local community and in providing a better exit for the fishing club on the reservoir after we secured a section of land from them to allow for a substantial car parking facility which is a huge benefit to this facility.

Trusted partnerships are key for the success for any new surgery process we have to work together with you to achieve success.

How We Got There

“To end my working days in such a place considering that 31 years ago when I started we worked from two very small rooms. It’s been magnificent.”

Dr Geoff Walder, Retired Senior Partner, Lilliput Surgery, Sandbanks
